Statement of Work

Influenced by the intuitive techniques of abstract expressionists, my work explores the intersections between camouflage patterning, surface design and meticulous image making. Through acrylic paint, digital prints and large scale installation, I sharpen the connotations attached to these materials and spaces while simultaneously recontextualizing their meaning through frenzied repetition. I select vibrant colors that convey feelings that are simultaneously innocent, provocative, wild and repulsive, including a range of fluorescent colors that evoke a sense of attraction and warning. I combine these colors with rich textures to generate optical mixing and other phenomena that allude to digital glitches, color blindness tests and Magic Eye posters.
