Creative Confluence Fund Info Sessions

Join ArtsKC and Charlotte Street staff for an info session on the newly announced Creative Confluence Fund to go over the grant basics, process and journey. Info sessions are being held at the following locations: Can't make it to an in-peron info session? A virtual info session will be made available on the Creative Confluence Fund website, creativeconfluencefund.org.
Strengthening communities and artists in Kansas City

Here's the idea: two grant streams, one confluence of creative power. 10 artists will receive $50,000 over two years to lead transformational community projects. 15 arts-engaged organizations will be provided support through grants and funds equal to $50,000 over two years to build their capacity to positively impact the community in key geographic areas across Kansas City

The 2026 Kansas City Underground Film Festival returns September 11–19 at Charlotte Street. Join us for six days of bold, original, and unforgettable cinema from around the world; completely free to attend.

EMAS Presents: a live scoring of Stan Brakhage’s Dog Star Man

EMAS will be be doing a live film scoring of the exceptional experimental silent film, Dog Star Man, directed by Stan Brakhage, featuring Jane Wodening. Ben Baker – woodwinds Shanté Clair – strings, found objects, electronics Seth Andrew Davis – guitar Kelley Gant – vocals, whistling, electronics Brooke Knoll – harp Kwan Leung Ling – suona Aaron Tyler Osborne – upright bass, electronics Zak Pischnotte – horns Evan Verplough – drums Dog Star Man is a series of short experimental films, all directed by Stan Brakhage, featuring Jane Wodening. It was released in installments between 1961 and 1964 and comprises a prelude and four parts. The five short films all form one larger film, and they will be shown together as one film. Described as a "cosmological epic" and "creation myth" (particularly the Prelude), Dog Star Man illustrates the odyssey of a bearded woodsman (Brakhage) climbing through a snow-covered mountain with his dog to chop down a tree. While doing so, he witnesses various mystical visions with various recurring imagery such as a woman, child, nature, and the cosmos while making his ascent. ProdoLAB—October 2026

ProdoLAB is a bimonthly experimental platform in partnership with musician/composer Eddie Moore that pairs Kansas City time-based artists, producers, and musicians to collaborate on a new piece for a one-night-only showcase at Charlotte Street. Each performance is followed by a Q&A session with the artists.

Nightshades Experimental Animation Festival

Nightshades is a free experimental animation screening by and for the animators of Kansas City, Missouri happening November 13 and 14, 2026! Applications are now open to the submit your work to be part of Nightshades! It is free to submit (and to attend).
This program will feature short animation that uses techniques and processes beyond what is considered “industry standard” in animation today. This could include stop motion films that use physical materials in new and exciting ways, unconventional digital techniques, and non-traditional narrative structures.
Requirements for submission:
  • Filmmakers must live in or be from Kansas or Missouri
  • Animation must be "experimental" in content, medium, or technique.
  • Films should be approximately 15 seconds to 15 minutes in length.
  • No AI
  • Films must be finished (no in process work)
  • Content is NOT required to be family friendly, but no racist, homophobic, or otherwise offensive content will be allowed.
SUBMISSIONS DUE OCTOBER 10th, 2026
Films will be screened by a panel of jurors (TBD); Selected works will be notified via email by October 20th, 2026.

Come join us and explore a breadth of offerings for sale, from ceramics to books, wearables, prints, as well as local resources.
