Statement of Work

Brandon Forrest Frederick is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and organizer based in Kansas City, Missouri. He received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2011. His visual practice incorporates photography, video, zine-making, and sculpture to explore our modern society and the human-built structures that exist within. Brandon uses episodes of humor, reproduction, image making, community collaboration, and moments of civic imagination to create a multi-faceted approach to dealing with the inequities of a capitalistic society while learning to cope within the peculiar humor of it all.

In addition to, and in collaboration with his studio practice, Brandon works as an arts organizer which has materialized projects such as: The Roost Gallery, Imagine That!, Archive Collective, Come Here, Build ____ . and Open House.

His work has been shown locally in solo and group exhibitions at La Esquina, Paragraph Gallery, Vulpes Bastille, the H&R Block Artspace, and nationally at the Granite City Arts & Design District (G-CADD). In 2017 he was selected for a public billboard commission through Missouri Bank and the Charlotte Street Foundation.

I'm always trying to find this balance between sadness and joy, looking for criticality and humor in response to the inherent inequities of a capitalistic society.
