Statement of Work

Mel Mitchell-Jackson (they/she) is an adventure artist and musician, based in Northern California who runs a retreat center called Persistent Bloom. Through retreats, creative craft classes, and tutoring sessions, Mel compassionately supports the human artists in starting and recovering their practices.

By guiding people to working in alignment with their hands, bodies, and the nature around them, students open up to a world of making beyond the rules of the art world. You can read all about their work on their blog or by watching their YouTube channel.

Previously, Mel was an active community organizer, writer, and curator for the art scene in Kansas City. They ran a gallery in their apartment, and started Informality an art review publication. Then, they were a co-director of Plug Gallery, had a studio in a communal space at The Drugstore collective, and volunteered as a curator and guest teacher in artist-run and institutional spaces.
