Charlotte Street Foundation’s Studio Residency program opens its doors on Saturday, April 30, 2022 for its annual Open Studios event!

Open Studios is located at our new campus at 3333 Wyoming Street, Kansas City, MO 64111 from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM with performances, curatorial talks, and readings. This event is free and open to the public. Visitors can get behind-the-scenes insight on the creative process for many up-and-coming artists in Kansas City. This is a great opportunity to meet with over 30 Charlotte Street studio artists, learn about their work and processes, and enjoy free entertainment! Performing residents will showcase their work in our Stern Theater, Puscheck Courtyard and Charlotte Street Gallery through the day.

  3:00 PM             JEREMY ZIMMERMAN SOLO | Puscheck Courtyard
Come play and move with Jeramy and friends in the Courtyard. Dancing bodies bring fresh perspectives to public spaces, and this improvisation may make you want to join in!  

3:30-4:00 PM      TYREE JOHNSON SOLO | Stern Theater
Producer/Drummer, Tyree Johnson, performs new tunes blending Jazz, fusion, Neo-Soul.  

4:00-5:00 PM      WRITER’S BLOCK PARTY | Puscheck Courtyard
Resident writers Vanessa Aricco, Jackie Hedeman, Melanie Pierce, JES, and Courtney Faye Taylor read new poems, essays and excerpts written during the residency.  

5:00-5:30 PM      IN ALL FORMS | Stern Theater
Residents Haley Kostas, dance choreographer, and Drea DiCarlo, visual artist, collaborate with musician, Conner Giles present a dark commentary on the experience of mental illness, explored through the connection between shape and sound.  

5:30-6:30 PM     EXTEMPORANEOUS MUSIC SOCIETY | Stern Theater
Cybersyn: ensemble of improvisers, live electronics, and video Extemporaneous Music Society (EMS) Ben Baker – woodwinds Seth Andrew Davis – laptop/electronics, Alex Goldwasser – laptop/electronics Krista Kopper – double bass, Ian O’Neil – live video, Aaron Osborne – gongs/percussion Evan Verploegh – drums

6:30-7:00 PM      STEPHONNE | Stern Theater
Stephonne Singleton performs new songs scored for string quartet by fellow resident, Adee Dancy.  

7-7:30 PM           ROSÉ PEREZ | Stern Theatre
Second year performance resident Carrie Anne Wallen’s experimental pop group with Darcy Higgins and Lina Dannov create an interactive, consciousness-expanding performance using fixed media, video montage, and live musical instrumentation.  

8-8:30 PM           45° FLAMENCO | Stern Theater
A filmed excerpt from the full-length production of Orígenes, a music and dance timeline about the influences that created flamenco produced by dancer/choreographer Melinda Hedgecorth with musical direction and guitar and oud by Beau Bledsoe, singer Antonio Rojas, cellist Ezgi Karakus, and percussionist John Currey.  

8:30-9:00 PM     AN UNTUCHING, EN FOOR PARTS | Puscheck Courtyard
Visual resident Johanna Winters presents a new collaborative performance with New York-based cellist and composer Ethan Philbrick. This work explores the politics of touch by pairing experimental shadow puppetry and new music for solo cello.  

9-9:30 PM          HOMAGE to HOME | 3rd fl Lounge
Site specific immersive performance with a disorienting domestic scene combining musical performance with theatre and sculpture created by residents Adee Dancy and Mary Clara Hutchinson.
