Angels & Demons at Play

Angels & Demons at Play at la Esquina—with live performances Friday, February 25, 8pm; Saturday, February 26, 8pm; and Sunday, February 27, 2pm— is an original multi-media and interdisciplinary performance event that explores the interplay of positive and negative energetic forces using the vehicle of traditional Balinese Dance Drama, Masked Dance and Shadow Puppet Theater as points of departure. Bringing together some of the Kansas City area’s most active and original artists, musicians, choreographers, and dancers, the work includes original compositions written by Pat Conway for the Gamelan Orchestra and western instruments, performed by Gamelan Genta Kasturi, Dwight Frizzell (clarinet & alto clarinet), and Shawn Hansen (piano, toy piano.)  It also features shadow puppets by Allan Winkler; electronic visual media by Dwight Frizzell and Emily Kissner; lighting design by Rachael Shair; and choreography by Penelope Hearne, Kalen Compernolle, Tuesday Faust, performed by the choreographers as well as dancers Katie Brennan, Brie Blakeman, and The City in Motion Apprentice Company.

This performance is FREE; donations encouraged. Seating is first come, first served; no reservations required.
