Charlotte Street is pleased to present In·ter·ven·tion, a site-specific installation by 2013-14 Charlotte Street Studio Resident Carolina Aranibar. This original art installation, accompanied by the premiere of a new piece, Preliminary Studies, by composer/musician Hunter Long, is presented as part of Charlotte Street’s Studio Residency Program ¶ Series.
In·ter·ven·tion is a temporary installation inspired by natural phenomena of light, color, and reflections. Developed by Aranibar through a period of exploration and experimentation within Paragraph gallery, In·ter·ven·tion responds to and amplifies specific aspects of the interior space, using subtle shifts in light to enunciate elements of the space most likely otherwise unobserved or ignored. In·ter·ven·tion ultimately aims to enliven a sense of wonder at the dynamic moments constantly produced and presented all around us through interactions of light, space, and material.

During the opening, at 8pm, Black House Collective director Hunter Long will premiere “Preliminary Studies,” a new music composition for three players. This work, performed by Hunter Long, Amy Hearting, and Jason Smith, seeks to take the performers out of their comfort zones by asking them to play instruments they aren’t familiar with, while creating complex structures with toy sounds. Each of the performers will play multiple instruments, most of these being toy instruments common in child music classes.

ABOUT THE CHARLOTTE STREET STUDIO RESIDENCY ¶ SERIES:
The Charlotte Street Studio Residency Program ¶ Series is a series of exhibitions, performances, projects, and public programs organized by and highlighting the work of Charlotte Street Studio Residents. From September 2013-December 2014, Charlotte Street’s Paragraph and Project Space galleries, 21-23 East 12th Street in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, will be dedicated to the Charlotte Street Studio Residency Program ¶ Series.
The intent of the series is to amplify the impact of the residency program by providing resident artists with opportunities to produce and publicly present ambitious new work and projects at highly visible public venues. Through the series, artists gain valuable hands-on experience with curating, marketing, installing and coordinating all aspects of producing exhibitions, performances, and events, while also pushing their work in new ways, undertaking new collaborations, and gaining increased exposure.
