Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM

As part of the exhibition Reflecting the City, artist Jill Downen will introduce the art of gold leafing using metal leaf, a faux gold that looks similar to real gold. Participants will learn how to handle the art materials and prepare the surface before gilding on flat and 3-dimensional forms.

All materials are provided. You may select from a collection of objects or bring your own. Gilding requires a non-porous surface such as hard plastic or glazed ceramics, so choose your object carefully.

At the end of the workshop, selected works will be displayed in the exhibition, Reflecting the City, on view from March 29 through May 4, 2024. Charlotte Street will return objects to each workshop participant after the exhibition.

Spots are limited. Registration required. Ages 13 and up are welcome.

If you have any questions about selecting an object or sealing a porous object with a water-based, quick-drying polyurethane ahead of the workshop, please contact Gallery + Programs Manager Kimi Kitada at kimberly@charlottestreet.org.
