In 2004, Charlotte Street launched its first studio residency space at The Bank located at 11th & Baltimore in the historic Mark Twain Tower in Downtown, Kansas City. During its first year, the repurposed building provided studio spaces for 15 artists. As part of Charlotte Street’s Urban Culture Project (UCP), The Bank UCP Studios were Charlotte Street’s initial venture into supporting artists through a residency program and providing free studio space. Over its 2 1/2 year lifespan, The Bank UCP Studios supported 37 artists, paving the way for what our studio residency program would become.

Invest: The Bank Studio Residency Alumni exhibition celebrates the artists from the early years of the UCP Bank Studios and celebrates their investment and commitment to their work and career development, and their investment into the budding culture of Downtown, Kansas City by their participation in Charlotte Street’s Downtown Studio Residency.
