Midwest Poetics Panel Discussion

Join us in Charlotte Street’s, Kemper Library for our first Midwest Poetics Panel of the year! Our program partner One Mic Stand KC will be in conversation with the artists who will be performing at our showcase in the evening.

Panelists include artists: Aisha, Lenny, Dame, Adeta Marie, Trey Newman and Zeph France.

The Midwest Poetics Showcase following this panel discussion in the evening is a special one, as it will be in celebration of River Makenzie’s solo show. River is a visual artist, organizer and half of One Mic Stand KC. Come out to see her work and hear the voices of the artists and performers that represent our writing community! We look forward to seeing you all at this two part event on Saturday, June 25!

Hope-Lian Vinson

Hope-Lian Vinson is a Kansas City-based visual artist whose works recast elements of the built environment to explore internal narratives of history and identity. With a B.F.A in Painting, Art History, and a Social Practice Certificate from the Kansas City Art Institute, Hope-Lian works at the intersections of art and ecology by using locally-sourced clay and natural materials to reference place and geological processes. They have showcased works in MdW Atlas, SITE ONE, Sapien Gallery, and have recently returned from the Chop Wood Carry Water arts residency in the Driftless region of NW Illinois. They currently serve as the Marketing + Communications Manager at Charlotte Street, where they use their artistic background in community-organizing to provide critical support for Charlotte Street programs and initiatives.
