Kansas City-based writer Chad Onianwa will lead our next Midwest Poetics Writing Workshop, a two-hour intensive hosted at Charlotte Street.

Writing in a Vacuum with Chad Onianwa

What’s the point of (arts) writing in Kansas City? Who is it for and to what ends? Maybe that energy would be better spent farming or something?

This workshop’s primary interest is to question the social/political/professional space held by local (arts) writing. We will work on some models for identifying the purpose, power, potential, and intention around our writing. Everyone is welcome.

About Midwest Poetics

Midwest Poetics is an opportunity for artists to hold space for writing, reading, and literature. This workshop series centers connection, conversation, collaboration, and communal learning to heal and ask more questions. We happily give the mic to Black and Indigenous vocalists, poets, writers, musicians, and performers of color to celebrate their craft and facilitate our workshops.

Midwest Poetics is a Lit space where we will workshop new material in a peer-to-peer setting every other month and conclude with an end-of-year showcase in December 2023.
