WHAT IS SCRATCH NIGHT?

An eclectic salon of works-in-progress from KC’s most exciting generative artists alongside a unique audience feedback framework.

THE LINEUP

Kyle Mullins, Cerva Trova: HOMECOMING, or Dances at the Bottom of a Well is a work that explores autobiography, memory, the Heroe’s Journey, and the bittersweet aging of the Performer. Using movement and dance-theater, dance-maker Kyle Mullins uses the language of contemporary and post-modern dance, music, and text to create a new evening-length solo performed by its creator. This in-process new work seeks to find intersections dance-making with road trips, nostalgia, the poetry of Alex Dimitrov, the writing of Haruki Murakami, Chopin’s nocturnes, moon phases, and more. The work is in collaboration with scenic and visual artist Tim Rothwell to be premiered in late 2022.

Stephonne & Sisterbot: featuring a shared live band and co-mingled set backdropped by projected media, Charlotte Street Studio Residents Stephonne (“sultry, silky, vocal grit…”) and Sisterbot (“punk pop chamber orchestra”) present a performative song cycle exploring the theme of juxtaposition: open and closed, beginning and end, dark and light, intimacy and grandiosity.
