Join us for the opening reception of Shifting Tongues and a live performance of Refrain in Three Parts on Friday, November 14, from 6:00–9:00 PM. Curated by Danqi Cai [dan-CHI Tsai], Shifting Tongues brings together eight artists—Renata Cassiano Alvarez, Nada Bayazid, Danqi Cai, Ranran Fan, Samantha Haan, Yoonmi Nam, Yangbin Park, and Kiki Serna—whose work explores how language falters, adapts, and shapes identity across painting, printmaking, handmade paper, ceramics, interactive art, and immersive installation. The exhibition examines the fluid boundary between what is spoken and what is felt, what is inherited and what is made anew.

At 7:00 PM, the evening will feature a live scoring of Refrain in Three Parts, presented in collaboration with the UMKC Conservatory’s Sight x Sound Series. Soprano Hannah Guzman and vibraphonist David Oosse will perform a score composed by Rodrigo Camargo for Cai’s multimedia installation, transforming the gallery into a resonant exchange between sound, language, and visual form.
