Charlotte Street Foundation is pleased to announce the 2012 Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Awards Fellows Event, Friday, October 5, 9pm at the Fishtank Theater, featuring a new window-play The Voyeur: An Urban Rhapsody, conceived, written, and produced by Heidi Van with original live music composed by Patrick Alonzo Conway and performed by the People’s Liberation Big Band of Greater KC.

The event honors the work of composer/musician Pat Alonzo Conway and theatre creator and performer Heidi Van, who received Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Awards of $8,500 each earlier this year. Conway and Van were selected for the Awards by a panel of regional and national performing arts professionals through a highly competitive, two-phase process. Since launching in 2008, and including the 2012 Generative Performing Artist Fellows, Charlotte Street Foundation has recognized 11 Generative Performing Artists in Kansas City creating outstanding, innovative, original work in the fields of dance, theater, music, and hybrid versions thereof, with $58,000 in cash distributed.

ABOUT VOYEUR: AN URBAN RHAPSODY AND ORIGINAL LIVE MUSIC ACCOMPANIMENT

Voyeur: An Urban Rhapsody is the 4^th annual window-play by Heidi Van and will be performed one night only on October 5. In her window-plays, Van explores how performance transcends words, using movement, visual elements, music and humor to replace verbal content. These window plays also break the fourth wall by placing musicians (and sometimes actors) outside with the audience.

Van and Conway’s collaborative efforts for the October 5^th performance required Conway’s immersion into the world of abstract theatricality, which he found particularly engaging and challenging. Performing music in a variety of settings and styles, and creating new music, has been central to Conway’s practice from an early age. He is especially drawn to the ephemeral nature of real-time, performance-oriented art.
