In Awards, Opportunities

Charlotte Street Foundation invites applications from eligible artists wishing to be considered for the 2013 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards. All eligible artists are encouraged to apply. Deadline is Monday, December 10, 2012. The curatorial panel includes Franklin Sirmans, LA County Museum of Art; Lauren Cornell, New Museum of NYC; Kris Ercums, Spencer Museum of Art; and Stacy Switzer, Grand Arts.

Charlotte Street Awards to Visual Artists annually provide unrestricted cash grants to outstanding visual artists LIVING IN THE GREATER KANSAS CITY METRO AREA (Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Wyandotte Counties). These competitive awards recognize artists who are creating outstanding artwork, and provide financial support, critical validation, and increased exposure for these artists with the aim of fostering their continued artistic and professional development. Through the Awards program, Charlotte Street Foundation seeks to contribute to the vitality of Kansas City’s arts community, distinguish Kansas City as a place that values and supports its artists, and enhance its desirability as a place for artists to work and live.

Three Awards of $10,000 are planned for 2013. A curated exhibition of the recipients’ work will be presented at Grand Arts in fall, 2013. A color brochure with commissioned essay is produced in conjunction with the exhibition.

Since its establishment in 1997, Charlotte Street Foundation has supported 77 outstanding visual artists through its Visual Artist Awards, with $512,500 distributed directly to the artists.
