Visiting Curator Series

Charlotte Street presents, What Will You Think Tomorrow?, at its Paragraph Gallery space (23 E 12th Street, Kansas City, Mo) opening Thursday, January 21st, with a reception from 6-8PM.

This is the first exhibition of the 2016 Charlotte Street Studio Residency- Visiting Curator Series—a program inviting local arts professionals to curate projects featuring the work of current Studio Residents—both visual and performing. What Will You Think Tomorrow? is curated by Andrew Lyles and features artists, Kadie Nugent and Daiana Oneto.

What Will You Think Tomorrow? is a playful collaborative installation between Nugent and Oneto. The exhibition explores how abstraction influences their work and subsquently, how each artist’s body of work will conjoin within the gallery space. As Oneto draws, Nugent responds by creating large, fanciful wire sculptures that will envelope the gallery space. The final result is a playful dance between artists—each informing one another, and the artist’s working together to activate the space. As Curator, Andrew Lyles shares, “the show does not hold itself to drawings and sculptures. The space will become alive as each artist installs and distinguishes what they ultimately want to do.” Andrew’s hope is that, “visitors will be transported to another world, that the exhibition itself will become a truly experiential event.”

ABOUT THE CURATOR
Andrew Lyles is a 2010 Kansas City Art Institute Alumni (painting) and former Charlotte Street Studio Resident. He was the Director at the Spray Booth Gallery—an alternative artist-run exhibition space that showcased over 200 local and visiting artists in its three year history. He was also a collaborating partner with The Talk Shop in Kansas City. Since then, Andrew has been an active member of the Kansas City arts community.
