Statement of Work

I have been working on a project that is dealing with various fields of play; boxing rings, tennis courts, etc. as readymade abstractions, referencing abstract painters such as Peter Halley and Piet Mondrian. The paintings are playing games with abstract painting troupes as well as playing a game with the viewer, forcing them into the role of both participants as well as the spectator. A game within a game. The paintings also attempt to speak to interpersonal relationship dynamics, using a game setting as a surrogate for the day-to-day interactions of people. I have also been making work that deals with the desire for success and the disappointment in failure and how these terms can be defined with limited context.
