Join our writing workshop with author Rebekah Taussig as a part our programming for the exhibition Joy and Other Feats of Strength!

The last two-plus years have been – so much. The distress and suffering, stress and chaos is not hard to find. But what about joy? Is there a way to feel loss and joy at the same time? Rage and comfort, grief and levity, anxiety and openness, strain and resilience, devastation and creativity? In a two hour workshop, Rebekah Taussig creates space for participants to hold onto the both/and of our stories.

ABOUT REBEKAH TAUSSIG

Rebekah Taussig, Ph.D. is a Kansas City writer and teacher with her doctorate in Creative Nonfiction and Disability Studies. She has led workshops and presentations at the University of Michigan, University of Kansas, and Davidson College on disability representation, identity, and community. She also runs the Instagram platform @sitting_pretty where she crafts “mini-memoirs” to contribute nuance to the collective narratives being told about disability in our culture. She lives with two cranky orange cats and one angsty-tender human. Masks required indoors. Hope-Lian Vinson

Hope-Lian Vinson is a Kansas City-based visual artist whose works recast elements of the built environment to explore internal narratives of history and identity. With a B.F.A in Painting, Art History, and a Social Practice Certificate from the Kansas City Art Institute, Hope-Lian works at the intersections of art and ecology by using locally-sourced clay and natural materials to reference place and geological processes. They have showcased works in MdW Atlas, SITE ONE, Sapien Gallery, and have recently returned from the Chop Wood Carry Water arts residency in the Driftless region of NW Illinois. They currently serve as the Marketing + Communications Manager at Charlotte Street, where they use their artistic background in community-organizing to provide critical support for Charlotte Street programs and initiatives.
