Statement of Work

My work explores the intimacy and nostalgia of vacant living spaces. Using furniture and other artifacts of domestic daily life I create sculptures and installations that seek to evoke the longing of remembered rooms and personal belongings. In these works, I reference stage sets, department store displays, and film stills in order to construct spaces that are both authentic and contrived. By celebrating empty everyday living spaces I honor the implied human presence of the objects we use to create and tailor the humble territories we inhabit. By using subtle ambient sound and exaggerated, the theatrical light I am able to amplify the viewer’s sensory experience of the calm, still spaces. Within the context of these small, contained sets I am free to construct scenes that are simultaneously isolated and exposed.
