Join us in celebrating writers’ work for the first Midwest Poetics Showcase with One Mic Stand KC and Marcus Yates!

Midwest Poetics is an opportunity for artists to make space, celebrate and connect with the many voices that make the music and performance scenes that thrive in the Midwest. We want to give the mic to Black, and Indigenous vocalists, poets, writers, musicians and performers of color to celebrate their craft. Join us in celebrating the work of the writers and their voices who’ve been with us during workshop over the last couple of months! We will be gathering Charlotte Street Foundation’ Courtyard on Saturday, March 26 at 6pm. Our program partners and facilitators: One Mic Stand KC and Marcus Yates will be inviting art vendors along with MC’ing the night.

Hope-Lian Vinson

Hope-Lian Vinson is a Kansas City-based visual artist whose works recast elements of the built environment to explore internal narratives of history and identity. With a B.F.A in Painting, Art History, and a Social Practice Certificate from the Kansas City Art Institute, Hope-Lian works at the intersections of art and ecology by using locally-sourced clay and natural materials to reference place and geological processes. They have showcased works in MdW Atlas, SITE ONE, Sapien Gallery, and have recently returned from the Chop Wood Carry Water arts residency in the Driftless region of NW Illinois. They currently serve as the Marketing + Communications Manager at Charlotte Street, where they use their artistic background in community-organizing to provide critical support for Charlotte Street programs and initiatives.
