Statement of Work

In my work, I attempt to show the divide within myself for the attraction I have towards certain expectations of femininity. As an educated woman, I find it difficult to swallow my own seductions to accessories that can make you ‘prettier’ or ‘sexier.’ I believe that this is a universal struggle for women. The question brought to mind is what are the pros and cons of beauty and how society as a whole feeds into it. I have pursued this interest mainly through the art of performance. While I often use my own body, I have begun to work with other women in my age group so that they can raise their own questions of beauty and its enticing qualities; while considering what and how we choose to reveal or conceal ourselves while creating this allusion of beauty.
